Distance makes the heart grow fonder

Hi Reader,

Sometimes taking a break is the thing that gets you motivated again.

If you replied to my last email with book recommendations – Thank you! I have your email and will reply soon. I’m also going to compile the list and share it here with my own additions. Stay tuned!

During my break, I did a lot of soul searching…

Because I’ve been wondering if I still want to do this anymore. Author coaching that is. Sometimes clarity brings fear and anxiety.

I created The Creative Goblin Way and suddenly doubted everything about who I am as a coach and if I can really help people do what I say I do.

It made me feel like this: 😬

But then I thought... Yes, actually, I can.

I have helped writers do all of those things.

Because my knack isn’t helping people find a magic bullet recipe to finish their book. No way, amigo. I’m the anti-magic bullet coach.

My knack is in helping writers see and reconnect with what they love about writing, what they love about their story and characters, and how they can make writing a joyful and fulfilling part of their lives on their own terms.

That’s The Creative Goblin Way!

It’s about reaching The End on this book… AND future books. Finishing one book is just the beginning. It’s about THRIVING as a writer. Again and again.

During my time off, in addition to creating a beautiful xeriscape garden to reduce water usage and working on my musical, I made some decisions:

  • The Story Compass is no longer a standalone coaching experience.
    • Why? Because it’s missing the piece I love most about helping writers: CONNECTION. I love to talk to writers about their work. The Story Compass (in its current form) doesn’t allow the two-way conversation I love having!
    • Instead, I’ve rolled it into my ongoing coaching program, Brains & Glory as the first step to working together, because I believe the Story Compass is the best place to start no matter where you are in writing your novel, to reorient you on the right path for you and your vision of your story.
  • Brains & Glory (my ongoing author coaching experience that I never talk about, haha cry) has been revamped a little bit
    • Story Compass is rolled in (as previously stated)
    • Instead of weekly 30-minute sessions, it’s now two 60-minute sessions per month with email support between
    • I also created two tiers for page reviews depending on the number of words you can reasonably write in a given week/month (5,000 or 10,000).
    • So, Brains & Glory has three tiers: 1. Steady Momentum (still workshopping the name there; no page reviews). 2. Pages: 5,000 words per month. 3. Pages Plus: 10,000 words per month.
  • Decided to create little snacks for your Creative Goblin. The Concession Stand will be open officially in August, so stay tuned for more info!
    • The Concession Stand will have workshops, tools, and resources to help you with your writing journey.
    • There are currently four snacks in the Concession Stand, and hope to add one per month for the rest of the year.
    • If you want to share what you’re struggling with, or what your writing goals are for the summer, I’ll make a snack to help you with it!
What's keeping you stuck in your writing life right now? What's your writing goal for the summer?

I also, obviously, decided to keep doing this thing. As long as I have people interested, I’ll keep going. Because truly I love this work so much. I love the connections I’ve made with people. I love boosting writers up, showing them they CAN do this, and helping them reach The End (I have a 100% success rate so far!), and in the process creating a writing life that is joyful and fulfilling.

The way a writing life is meant to be.

Claire💛

P.S. If any of this resonated with you, I’d love for you to send in an application to work together. I currently have a short wait list. No obligation. It’s just the first step!

P.P.S. I also became a gardener!? This girl who is anti-yard work built a xeriscape garden with native Colorado plants to reduce water usage. Like… what!? Here’s an in-progress pic (the path isn’t yet installed, obviously… I’m letting it sit to make sure I love the layout). Yeah, I did all of this with mine own two hands. I'm very proud, in case you couldn't tell!

A blond dog with paw raised as if waving hello

Hi Reader, A long time ago, I missed my calling as a theatre kid. I was 7 years old. A cringingly shy child. I decided I wanted to try out for the local theatre company's production of Cinderella. I auditioned. I got passed up. BUT, days later, they called back. Apparently my audition form had gotten stuck to another one. I actually did get the part. But at that point, I'd moved on already. The calling had vanished. The shyness had overtaken me again. Anyone who has worked with me or attended...

Baby bunnies eating by a green evergreen bush

Hi Reader, There are currently four baby bunnies living in the bush in my front yard and every time I see them, I squee with delight and sit and watch them, slowly dying from cuteness overload. 🥹 Baby bunnies eating. That's all they do is eat. And scatter. The bunnies scatter the second they think there’s a threat. Yesterday, a truck rumbled down the road behind the house and the bunnies fled to safety inside the bush. Their instincts are strong. Fast forward to probably a week or two from...

Hi Reader, From hotdog flavored whiskey to IKEA’s meatball lollipops, we cannot trust the internet on April 1st. I have been working hard for the past 3+ months getting a new quiz up and running. This one uses 100% my own IP (instead of borrowing from Jim Henson). I spent hours drawing graphics for each result, days designing the dossier style results pages that actually look like files from an archive. I obsessed over the questions, logo for the fictional agency, all of it. I was so excited,...
