Bunny Pancakes 🐰🥞

Hi Reader,

There are currently four baby bunnies living in the bush in my front yard and every time I see them, I squee with delight and sit and watch them, slowly dying from cuteness overload. 🥹

The bunnies scatter the second they think there’s a threat. Yesterday, a truck rumbled down the road behind the house and the bunnies fled to safety inside the bush.

Their instincts are strong.

Fast forward to probably a week or two from now, the bunnies will no longer scatter when they see us.

Instead, they’ll flatten themselves down into the grass and hope we don’t see them.

I call them Bunny Pancakes.

This is so much like the life of a writer (thin metaphor incoming).

We begin our foray into writing, sometimes as children, with reckless creative abandon, trusting some strong instinct about how stories work.

Knowing they need a beginning, middle, and end, but not caring really what happens.

Following every thought, image, and idea no matter how ridiculous or if it even makes sense.

We trust our innate creative instincts.

And then… Something shifts.

We decide we want to be a writer.

The stakes are raised.

Things get serious.

Suddenly we can no longer follow every weird idea. It has to “make sense”now. It has to “appeal” to an audience (instead of just our inner creative desires and our moms or other relative we always share our work with).

Writing becomes a “job.” The gurus even say to treat it like a job.

Or, maybe someone ruined everything for you at some point and damaged your creative soul with unintentionally harsh feedback, opinions, or critiques.

“Don’t quit your day job.” Someone said once.

The creative wound rarely heals, and when it does, it’s like burned skin. It heals, but it never quite looks the same again.

Well, I’m making something to help you heal the creative wounds and rekindle that creative spirit that you once had. I want to feed your inner creative goblin all the cookies and snacks it can take.

Before I create it… I want to make sure you want it (let's be real though... I've already started creating it... probably because I believe in it SO MUCH).

So, I’m doing a pre-sale. From now until April 30th, you can get The 5-Minute Writer for $9. After April 30th it’ll be $15. Use code: 5MINUTEPRESALE

Hi Reader, Sometimes taking a break is the thing that gets you motivated again. If you replied to my last email with book recommendations – Thank you! I have your email and will reply soon. I’m also going to compile the list and share it here with my own additions. Stay tuned! During my break, I did a lot of soul searching… Because I’ve been wondering if I still want to do this anymore. Author coaching that is. Sometimes clarity brings fear and anxiety. I created The Creative Goblin Way and...

Hi Reader, A long time ago, I missed my calling as a theatre kid. I was 7 years old. A cringingly shy child. I decided I wanted to try out for the local theatre company's production of Cinderella. I auditioned. I got passed up. BUT, days later, they called back. Apparently my audition form had gotten stuck to another one. I actually did get the part. But at that point, I'd moved on already. The calling had vanished. The shyness had overtaken me again. Anyone who has worked with me or attended...

Hi Reader, From hotdog flavored whiskey to IKEA’s meatball lollipops, we cannot trust the internet on April 1st. I have been working hard for the past 3+ months getting a new quiz up and running. This one uses 100% my own IP (instead of borrowing from Jim Henson). I spent hours drawing graphics for each result, days designing the dossier style results pages that actually look like files from an archive. I obsessed over the questions, logo for the fictional agency, all of it. I was so excited,...
